Six months old!

I can't believe Kate turned six months old on Wednesday, August 18. Where has time gone? Here are some shots of her on that day, wearing an adorable outfit from my mom (of course!). Poor little thing was actually a bit sick with a cold and cough though; we ended up taking her to urgent care that night, although they said she just had a common cold.

I love these new pillows I got from Target. They work so well in our living room.

Cutie! She looks so excited.

More Lake Fun

One of the best things about being up at the lake (in addition to being incredibly relaxing) was the fact that Kate got to meet her great-uncle Fred (my dad's brother) and two great-aunts (my dad's sister, Missy, and Fred's wife, Kathryn).

Her shirt has a bunch of different animals and cute sayings on it, like "Turtely adorable" (since we're at Turtle Lake-ha!), Wiggle Worm, Snuggle Bunny, etc. My mom bought it up here last summer when we weren't sure if it was Kate or Kurt we were expecting!

What a good sitter!

What a good stander!

I love those chubby legs!

While we were up north, we went to a wonderful restaurant in the neighboring town of Balsam Lake. For dessert, we had Kahlua-drenched devil's food cake with buttercream filling; yummy! Kate was looking at it longingly, but don't worry; she didn't have any. That spoon is clean.

Love this picture of the two of them.

"Our" room up at the lake. The cabin is a three-bedroom one, which works out perfectly since there are three owners. Fred & Kathryn have the room upstairs, my mom and dad have this one, and Missy has the third. My mom decorated this room in gorgeous "sunset" colors; fuchsia, purple, orange, yellow, and a little bit of red. You can't really tell from this picture, but the window overlooks the lake; it is so beautiful. (As a side note, though, for this trip, since Fred & Kathryn were only there for a little bit, they let us sleep in their room, which was very nice, especially since they have a queen-sized bed and little Kate often didn't want to sleep in her pack-n-play, so she was able to sleep with us.)

She started solids!

On August 1, at exactly 5 1/2 months, Kate tried solids. She has been so interested in food for, well, ever, and she was so excited when she finally got to have something other than breastmilk! She took to eating off a spoon right away and even grabbed it and tried to feed herself. She still loves her rice cereal, so she has that twice a day (breastmilk is still her primary form of nutrition, though, and will be until she's a year, at least). We did try bananas a week later, but those didn't go over so well. We'll probably start sweet potatoes next, but I'm in no rush. I'm fine with her just being on the rice cereal for awhile, both to get used to eating solids and to supplement her iron, but there's no need to get her on every fruit and veggie under the sun just yet.

Amelia Earhart, is that you?

Kate has these adorable sunglasses that she got at our baby shower, and when I pushed them up on her head, we thought she looked like a little aviator. These were taken up at our cabin in Turtle Lake, where we spent a glorious 3 1/2 days (we went up Wednesday night, August 4, and left on Sunday, August 8, at about noon so that we could get to the Dells). While up north, we swam, relaxed, played cards (Euchre is our favorite!), my mom and I did some shopping, and we all went to our favorite restaurant up there, The Five O'Clock Club.

Love her expression here!

Thanks for helping me sit up, Nana!

Five months!

Well, she is technically almost 6 months now, but here are some shots of her next to the bear, taken about a week after she turned 5 months (I know, I'm behind in posting, but that happens when vacations are taken!).

Compare this picture of her laying down next to the bear to the one taken when she was two weeks (see below). What a tall little girl she's become!
