Volcano Fun!

Some friends created a group focusing on STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) activities this summer and invited us to join. What a great idea! Today was our turn to do the experiment; we created volcanoes out of lemons, baking soda, lemon juice and dish soap (and of course food coloring). Very fun; the kids loved it!

Of course we had to play in the park beforehand!

 Mixing up the volcanoes!

Of course the sand toys someone brought were the things Owen liked best, since it was a bulldozer, dump truck, etc. ;)

Splash Pad Fun!

On Thursday, July 23, we had a fantastic day. Playgroup with friends in the morning, then lunch, and then we met Meghan and her kids at McKee Farms splash pad in Fitchburg. Love that place; so beautiful! (the pics on my phone don't do it justice). Then our family (along with my mom) went to the ABBA concert at the Monona Terrace. Gorgeous night, great music, but holy crowds! We'll know to get there a lot earlier next year!

Ack!!! I think Kate needs a sister!!!

Not sure what is up with the funny face!

Blooming Butterflies

On Monday, July 27 we went to Olbrich Gardens with our friends Sigita, Gus and Orson. So fun! We love the Blooming Butterflies exhibit. Then we all went to lunch at Crema Cafe; it is so cute to see Kate & Gus together, since they've been friends since Kate was two and Gus was on. Then after a nice afternoon nap, I took the kids to dinner at Laredo's, and then on to family swim at the aquatic center. It was 88 degrees at five o'clock; perfect night for it!

Owen and Orson. I love how sweet Owen is with babies; he's so kind and nurturing.

I love this one; it makes my heart melt. But how did my buddy get so big?!? I always feel like, next to Kate, he's still my baby, but seeing him next to an actual baby... man! He's so grown up!

 Such a good sharer!

Kate took this photo; I'm quite impressed with her skills!

Chicago Fun!

On Saturday, July 25, we went to Chicago, which is always fun. My mom, grandma, aunt and I saw a musical downtown called Kinky Boots; very good! Catchy music as well :) That night we had dinner at Lou Malnati's (one of our favorite places!) and then hung out by the fire pit roasting marshmallows (Kate was in heaven. Owen felt it was his duty to remind us every few minutes that the fire is "Huh----OTT!" Not quite sure why he drags it out to two syllables, but hey, it's cute :))

Sunday we went to the Field Museum. Kate is such a little learner; I love it! She enjoyed the Viking exhibit well enough, but she LOVED the ancient Egypt and the Mammoths and Mastodons exhibit. So fun to see her little brain working. Owen, on the other hand, was more into the play area, where he spent most of his time with Dan (although they did see the viking exhibit and the mammoth exhibit).

Trying to write Kate's names in Viking runes, but there was no e, so I had to do an i (hey, Kati is close enough!)

My worst nightmare, LOL. Everyone knows how terrified I am of bears!

Sue, the world's most complete T-rex fossil, named after the woman who discovered it (Susan Hendrickson).
