More Summer Fun

So I haven't been the best with updating my blog, I know! Being full-term in pregnancy will do that to you. :) Let's see, what have we been up to?

Last Monday (the 12th) Kate and I had a wonderful day at the Children's Museum. We hadn't been there in awhile and she loves that place, so we took advantage of that. Tuesday we had our last day of music class, which was bittersweet. Of course she'll start again in the fall, but the parents are only involved for about half of the class, or maybe a bit less, so this was the last class we could do together. I'm so glad we were able to do it for so long though; we started when she was 10 months, so we've had quite the run!

Wednesday we saw Meghan, Adelaide and Alden at their place, and Kate of course loved that. It is so cute seeing the two girls together, and it's really touching seeing how patient and nice Kate is with Alden. I can't wait to see her with her little sibling!

On Thursday Kate and I took a fantastic class at Olbrich Gardens. I don't know why we haven't done any of their classes before; this was so much fun! The theme of this one was "Curious George and the Pizza," and we started out by reading a story about (you guessed it) Curious George and the Pizza. Then you could go off to different stations; Kate and I started out at a craft station where she made her own "pizza", and then we spent the next hour watering the kitchen gardens. She was having so much fun looking at what each plant/vegetable/fruit was, and I was happy because all the produce is donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. It was so much fun to walk around with my sweet little girl enjoying  the sunshine and our last couple of days just the two of us. :) We'll definitely be doing some more of those classes in the fall.

And then she finished up her swimming class last Thursday; she did quite well! She needs to take the level again, which I think is normal for this age, but I was impressed at how many of the components she passed! And of course she had fun on the last day, since they get to play on the slides, with water toys, etc.; something they normally don't get to do during class.

Here are a couple of shots from the Children's Museum:

Making a sad face to be silly...

But wait, I'm really so excited for the children's museum!

And, just because I'm excited about it, my new dining set! Dan reupholstered the chairs with fabric I bought from Joann's, so we spent a whopping $120 ($90 for the dining set from Craigslist, plus $30 for the fabric) for a dining set that looks 100 times better than our old one. Just for reference, here was the old one (from my college apartment):

Yes, this is being stored in our garage right now, which is why it's ridiculously cluttered

The chairs were metal with an ugly faux wood

And here's the new one before we reupholstered:

And after reupholstering it:

I think Dan did a great job!

The Renaissance Faire

On Saturday August 10 we went to the Bristol Renaissance Faire; so fun! I know I say every stage is my favorite stage, but can I just say I love having a three-year-old? It's so fun to see her really "get" things and ask me questions about them. ("Why is her dress fancier, Mama? What type of lady is she, Mama? What is the queen doing now, Mama?" Oh how fun to explain Renaissance social classes to my daughter; I'm indoctrinating her with a love of history--I hope--at a young age!)

The night ended on a scary note, though, when Dan was having trouble thinking of words and formulating his sentences; it was so frightening! We had stopped at a mall in Racine for dinner, since they had a Chick-Fil-A there (the only one in Wisconsin!) and I miss that so much. (As a side note though, it was disgusting. It didn't taste like any of the other Chick-Fil-As I've gone to; talk about one disappointed pregnant lady!) Anyway we got there, and Dan had fallen asleep in the car, so I woke him up. He was so disoriented (not in just the normal "I just woke up" way either); he couldn't think of common words like "stroller." He kept saying, "Kate needs her... her... her..." I said, "her what?" He said, "you know... that thing... that...." I was like, I have no idea what you're talking about! I had opened the trunk to get something else, and he said, "That thing!" pointing to the stroller. And this continued for almost 15 minutes; it was so scary. So we called the dr., and they wanted us to come into the ER as soon as we got back to Madison.  So we did, and they did a CAT scan, EKG, and all that looked fine, but they want him to get an MRI because they were worried that he suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA) which is basically a mini-stroke (which doesn't damage your brain, luckily). How scary; I was terrified. Luckily Kate slept the whole time we were there, which is good, since we were there from 10 pm to 1:30 am! So hopefully we'll know more once he has the MRI, but he can't get in until August 27, which is unfortunate.

 Waiting for the pony ride

You can see here that she had changed into her Princess Aurora dress

We had to ride the ponies one more time before we left!
