A Perfect Summer Day

Sometimes, during the gray winters, I hate living here and wonder why I ever left Utah. Then spring and summer roll around, and we have glorious days like today, and I am reminded that I live in a beautiful place with wonderful friends, lots of free things to do, and a gorgeous downtown--and I fall in love with the place all over again.

We started out our morning by going to Owen's music class (which Kate participates in) and then after a quick grocery shopping trip and a stop at home to eat lunch, we headed to downtown Madison to attend the first Lunchtime Live concert, a free, 8-week series of concerts that takes place for free on the capitol lawn. This week's band played a lot of 1950s music; Return to Sender, Shake It Up Baby, etc. It was such a beautiful day to be outside with friends.

Afterward, Kate, Owen, Bianca (Kate's friend) and I explored the capitol for a bit (we didn't intend to; the girls just had to use the restroom, but somehow it turned into an exploratory event!) and then the three of us headed to Kilwin's on State St. for some ice cream. Then we picked up my mom, who was downtown for her nail appointment, and then headed back to Cambridge for some beautiful swimming.

All in all it was a wonderful summer day; I'm so glad we still have 11 weeks or so before Kate starts school. There's so much we want to fit in! :)

Owen couldn't take all the excitement and fell asleep by the time we picked up my mom :)
